Mel has over 40 years experience in the golf industry. Upon graduating from Pennsylvania State University and the University of Massachusetts in Turfgrass Management he began his career as a Greenkeeper at the Homestead Golf & Country Club, New Jersey. Through dedication and hard work he progressed through the ranks from Asstistant Superintendent, to Golf Superintendent, Construction Superintendent, Links Supervisor and finally Turfgrass Consultant.
As an independent agronomic consultant Mel has played a significant role in the development of many golf clubs around the world, working in an array of different climates and with different soil types. From initial inception to final grow-in, from programming phases of fine turf culture to training greenkeepers, Mel has all the expertise and the experience needed to advise on and manage all aspects of turfgrass growth and maintenance. What’s more his knowledge of acceptable environmental pesticide and fertilizer applications is second to none.
Mel boasts an enviable list of Club and Green Industry Credentials including: GCSAA (President 1980), Long Island GCSA (President 1973-75), Metropolitan GCSA, Cape Cod Turfgrass Managers Association, American Society of Agronomy, New York State Turfgrass Association (President 1978-79), Scottish-International Golf Greenkeeper Association, and USGA.
Mel has worked with Intergolf since 1999 and, to date, his opinion, advice and hands-on skills have been hugely valuable assets to the company and to our clients.
