Frank began his career as a shaper on the famous Ballybunion Golf Course in Ireland, a course created by one of the most renown designers of the 20th century, Robert Trent Jones Snr. It was while working on this initial project that Frank’s natural ability for shaping was recognised. He was invited to join the Robert Trent Jones Organisation and spent the next nine years honing his skills on an array of courses across the World. During this time he apprenticed under some of the most talented and creative people in the golf Industry about golf design, construction and turfgrass maintenance.
In 1992 Frank founded Intergolf. This allowed him to put his own design philosophy into practice and offer clients a service that focused on creativity, innovation, attention to detail and product quality. Over 100 courses later, the hallmarks of the Intergolf brand are still exactly the same.
Franks experience in working with a multitude of demanding terrain types and his natural ability to draw inspiration from the nuances of the landscape are both key to his success as a designer – as is his passion for perfection and his sheer love of what he does. His designs have been recognised by leading golf magazines as some of the most imaginative in the business.
Frank strongly believes that paper and computers can only take a designer so far when developing a new course, and that the real detail, the detail that makes all the difference, can only be achieved out in the field during the construction process. So, more often than not, that’s exactly where you'll find Frank whenever a project is underway.
As a shaper, Frank has also joined forces over the years with some of the most famous names in golf design, including Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, combining talents to create some uniquely special sporting landscapes.
